Review:  Well as soon as I heard there was a new DSi coming out I went down to the local hand-held gaming store and pre-ordered mine! And as with any gaming enthusiast I could not wait to get my hands on it. I chose the matt black finish for mine as I thought this would show less marks.UnwrappingWhen I was unpacking the new DSi there was the usual paraphernalia including:•A club Nintendo invitation,•Nintendo DSi health and safety booklet,•Nintendo DSi quick-start guide,•Nintendo DSi operation manual,•And Nintendo promotional booklet.Once you have worked my way through all that, only then can you get down to the real business of having a look at the new DSi. To the right of the box there is the mains charger for the DSi. It is rather large and chunky but looks well made (like all of Nintendo's products) however; it has a different shape to the DS/DS Lite’s attachment which means you can’t keep the same charger if you already have a DS/DS Lite. Then above the DSi there is a spare stylus. And then there is the DSi!Starting-up the DSi When I first saw the DSi I could instantly tell Nintendo had gone full guns to make this well worth the wait. With its lovely feel and texture I could tell it was the dawn of a new era in hand-held gaming! To the bottom right corner of the lid there is a 0.3mp (640x480 resolution) camera with a purple light next to it so you know when it is taking a photo. When you open the DSi there is no clicks or stiffness just one lovely swift motion as it opens. You will notice inside the DSi the screens are a lot larger than the old DS Lite, and brighter to. And before the power/charge lights were on the left hand side they are now on the left side and there is an additional Wi-Fi data light. Also the power button has moved from the right side of the console to a place where you don’t accidentally turn it off (to the bottom left of the screen to be precise). Another thing I like about the DSi are the buttons, because they are more inside the console which means you don’t have to push down as hard, and you can run diagonally (if you have Animal Crossing: Wild World then you’ll know what I mean!). However the battery life has decreased from 7-11 hours (DS Lite) to 4-6 hours (DSi) but on the plus side the DSi charges fully in 2 hours 30 minutes compared with the DS Lite’s 3 hours. And it is lighter by 4g and is slimmer!InterfaceWhen you turn on the DSi you are greeted with an easy to use set up wizard which guides you through all the normal steps to set your DSi up and even shows you how to use the camera! On the interface you have the camera icon, by clicking on that you activate the camera and then you can use the camera effects such as:•Colour alteration,•Merge,•Resemblance,•Distortion,•Mirror,•And many more! And then there is the sound/mp3 player which is very good because Nintendo have made the speakers more powerful so you can actually HEAR the music. In that you can record and edit your voice and overwrite sounds so that they can play backwards. Also there is an SD slot in the DSi which means you can expand your memory, and also download songs from your PC straight to your DSi (brilliant!) Another thing new about the DSi is that it has built-in web browser so you can hook up to the internet anywhere. And now there is a DSi-were store so you can buy games via that and store them on the SD card. And on a smaller note the stylus is 4.5 millimetres longer! The Downsides...Well there are so many plus sides to the DSi aren’t there? But there are downsides like:•No Game Boy Advanced (GBA) slot means you can’t play games like guitar hero or any GBA games,•The screen resolution/quality remains the same as the DS Lite, so if you thought it would have better quality graphics you thought wrong ,•The colour matt black marks quite easy and the white gets dirty very quickly,•Less battery life. So, are you satisfied?Well I’m satisfied with the DSi and if you get one then I’m sure you will be too! .
