Sony Bloggie Touch MHS-TS20K
Pros: Compact and robust Cons: Poor picture quality in low light, jerky video when downloaded. Review: Compact and robust it may be, but it is also useless! The still camera shoots poor photographs in all but the best light. The video recorder is equally poor at low light, added to which downloaded videos (which look reasonable when played on the camera screen) become excessively jerky when downloaded to Real Player, whether the movement being recorded is actual or due to panning. The quality becomes even more hopeless on recorded video if zoom is used. Even in bright sunlight, it takes too long to focus or assimilate colour, so recorded video goes out of focus and changes colour tint quite noticeably. I can get equally good still photographs and video on my mobile telephone! Although I was aware of its specification limitations in advance, it remains disappointing that it has no wireless or Bluetooth connectivity, and, whilst having the benefit of simple one-touch point and record, it has few adjustable settings. I also cannot see why it boasts a flip-out USB connector when this cannot support the weight of the camera and therefore cannot be inserted directly into a USB port without the included cable. The claimed 4-seconds that touch controls remain available on screen transpires to be less than 2 on my camera (also not adjustable), making access to functions a matter of very rapid hand-eye coordination. The 360 degree lens (which is an extra item to be carried around) is an almost pointless gimmick - it is nothing more than a plastic add-on mirror/lens, through which the camera lens views, and which is only effective if the camera is held exactly vertical, (practically needing a tripod), and the extra light absorption reduces the picture quality even further. It would be easier simply to video through 360 degrees manually, and at least you would be able to see the view and ensure an accurate horizon (without a tripod, the camera would have to be held over your head, and, in any case, the image is only revealed when deciphered by the software after downloading). Expensive waste of money. Needless to say, it's going back! |
